Using Facebook Places to Promote your business

27 Aug 2010

Facebook recently added location sharing to it’s already popular mobile app. 68% of Facebook users are likely to buy a product that is recommended by a friend on Facebook. While it is missing a few key features, it’s primary advantage is the enormous facebook community. Here are things you can do now to use Facebook Places to promote your business.

What happens when I check in through Facebook Places?

At the moment, a business listing is created on the wall of the person checking in, as well as a map of their location. And of course everyone viewing the wall post can “like” it.

How to leverage Facebook Places for your Business

  1. Make sure the address information on your Facebook page is accurate and up-to-date. If your business has multiple locations, create a separate page for each location. It’s highly likely that Facebook will begin associating businesses with their Facebook pages based on customers check-in location.
  2. Encourage customers to check-in from your business location. While Facebook does not yet offer a business the ability to create incentives for checking in, there’s no reason why you can’t do it yourself. Facebook users are more likely to visit a place that has been recommended by a friend (see the statistic above).
